Sizing for your dog

Vest Harness for small dogs

How are the Comfort Vest Harnesses sized?

Each Comfort Vest Harness for small dogs is made to order based on your dog's neck and chest (girth) measurements. Full measuring details are found on the Comfort Vest Harness product ordering page.

What size collar does your dog need?

Oxford Dogma handmade collars are available in four basic sizes: Extra Small, Small, Medium, and Large. For a comfortable fit, choose a collar that's about 1/2 to 1 inch larger than your dog's neck measurement.

If you don't have a measuring tape handy, you can print out this collar sizing printable to help find the right size.

Extra Small collars are 1/2 inch wide, and buckle to a circumference of 7 to 9 inches.

Small collars are 5/8 inch wide, and buckle to a circumference of 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 inches.

Medium collars are 3/4 inch wide, and buckle to a circumference of 12 1/2 to 14 1/2 inches.

Large collars are 1 inch wide, and buckle to a circumference of 15 1/2 to 17 1/2 inches.

Because each collar is made by hand, creating a custom size that's a better fit for your dog is possible. For example, maybe you'd like one that's 5/8 inch wide (typically the Small collar size) but goes up to 14 inches around (typically the Medium collar size). Simply fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page and we can work together to make the right thing for the special dog in your life.

A note on available sizes

Oxford Dogma specializes in making goods for smaller dogs. The main reason for this is that as a small-scale maker, I don't have the resources to properly design for all dog sizes. The bigger and stronger a dog gets, they develop different needs than their smaller canine cousins. Just by the nature of fabric, thread, and construction methods, 85 pounds of dog requires more ruggedness in the products than a 15 pound dog, and my workshop isn't equipped for those extremes. And on a personal level, I've always had small pets in my life, so that's what is familiar to me.

Custom orders

Are you having trouble finding the right fit? It might be that your dog needs a custom fit. Custom orders are available, but because of the way I source materials (such as reclaimed wool from sport jackets) an exact fabric match to an item from my shop may not be available. Let's talk about what you're looking for — you can get started by filling out this form.
